# FD S90-119 Terminal units for air for driving surgical tools (AFNOR)

FD S90-119, Terminal units for medical gas pipeline systems: terminal units for air for driving surgical tools and corresponding probes, is a July 2006 AFNOR document, listed as current, that sets the air-specific connection system for surgical-tool sockets and probes, in addition to NF EN ISO 9170-1 and NF S 90-116.

## Edition and status

AFNOR lists the July 2006 edition of FD S90-119 as a current published document, 4 pages long, in its collection of national standards and national normative documents (ICS 11.040.10).

## What it covers

According to AFNOR's summary, FD S90-119 sets the connection system specific to air for surgical instruments, for wall sockets and the probes that plug into them. It adds to two other documents: the general requirements for terminal units in NF EN ISO 9170-1, and the dimensions of sockets and probes in NF S 90-116. AFNOR's summary mentions air only; it does not mention nitrogen for driving surgical tools.

## Relation to other standards

- [NF S90-116](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/nf-s90-116/) is the French standard for sockets and related probes for medical fluids. AFNOR lists its October 2020 edition as current, and the socket must meet NF EN ISO 9170-1. FD S90-119 dates from 2006, before that edition.
- [ISO 9170-1:2017](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/iso-9170-1/) sets requirements for terminal units for compressed medical gases and vacuum, and does not specify the dimensions of probes.
- [ISO 7396-1:2016](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/iso-7396-1/) includes air and nitrogen for driving surgical tools in the pipeline systems it covers.
- [ISO 15002:2023](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/iso-15002/), on flow control devices, does not apply to devices for use with gases for driving surgical tools.
- In Germany, [DIN 13260-2](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/din-13260/) gives dimensions and allocation of probes and connection points, including those for the supply and disposal of air and nitrogen for driving surgical tools.

### Is FD S90-119 current?

AFNOR lists the July 2006 edition of FD S90-119 as a current published document.

### Which standards does FD S90-119 complement?

NF EN ISO 9170-1, for the general requirements of terminal units, and NF S 90-116, for the dimensions of sockets and probes.
