# ISO 10083:2006 Oxygen concentrator supply systems (withdrawn)

ISO 10083:2006, Oxygen concentrator supply systems for use with medical gas pipeline systems, is an ISO standard that ISO withdrew on 15 February 2016; ISO lists ISO 7396-1:2016 as the document that revised it, and ISO expects a new edition of ISO 7396-1 within the coming months.

## Status

ISO 10083:2006 (edition 2, July 2006, 42 pages, ISO/TC 121/SC 6) is withdrawn. Its last systematic review led, on 2 December 2015, to a decision to revise it, and ISO withdrew it on 15 February 2016 (stage 95.99). ISO lists ISO 7396-1:2016 as the document that revised it. The earlier edition, ISO 10083:1992, is also withdrawn.

## What it covered

ISO 10083 specified requirements for the design and installation of an oxygen concentrator supply system for use with a medical gas pipeline distribution system complying with ISO 7396-1. It applied only to systems producing oxygen-enriched air with an oxygen concentration of not less than 90%, and it excluded oxygen concentrators for domiciliary use, which its abstract assigned to ISO 8359.

## What to cite instead

- [ISO 7396-1:2016](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/iso-7396-1/), with Amendment 1:2017, is the edition in force. It covers supply systems in which all sources deliver oxygen 93, where the oxygen concentration may vary between 90% and 96%. In Europe it is adopted as EN ISO 7396-1:2016 + A1:2019.
- ISO expects ISO 7396-1:2016 to be replaced by a new ISO 7396-1 within the coming months, so check iso.org before citing the edition.
- ISO 7396-1 excludes oxygen concentrators for domiciliary use. The ISO standard for oxygen concentrator equipment is [ISO 80601-2-69:2026](https://library.ultracontrolo.com/standards/iso-80601-2-69/), which does not cover concentrators for use with a medical gas pipeline system.

## Where it is still cited

The 2026 edition of HTM 02-01, the NHS England guidance, still refers in Part B, in its description of the scope of BS EN ISO 7396-1, to pipeline distribution systems for oxygen-enriched air connected to supply systems with oxygen concentrators complying with BS 7634 and ISO 10083. A specification that asks for ISO 10083 refers to a withdrawn standard.

### Is ISO 10083 still valid?

No. ISO withdrew ISO 10083:2006 on 15 February 2016 and lists ISO 7396-1:2016 as the document that revised it.

### Which ISO standard covers oxygen 93 supply systems for a hospital pipeline today?

ISO 7396-1:2016, which covers supply systems in which all sources deliver oxygen 93, with an oxygen concentration that may vary between 90% and 96%.
