DIN outlet

A DIN outlet is a medical gas terminal unit whose probe connection follows the German standard DIN 13260-2, which sets the dimensions and allocation of probes and gas-specific connection points for terminal units.

DIN Media lists DIN 13260-2:2025-06 as the current edition. The 2025 edition extends the scope to probes and connection points for argon, oxygen 93, and air and nitrogen for driving surgical tools without exhaust air recirculation, and explains in an informative annex why oxygen 93 has its own gas-specific probe.

ISO 9170-1, the international standard for terminal units, makes outlets gas-specific but leaves the dimensions of probes to regional or national standards. The World Health Organization lists the German DIN 13260-2 style with the French NF S90-116 and British BS 5682 styles, and each style uses key-like indexing so that the fittings of each gas service, such as the probe, connect only with their own type.

Oxygen 93 is the gas that single-stage PSA plants such as ULTRAOX produce; the ULTRAOX SC and ST datasheets give a purity of 94% (±1%).
