Skid-mounted oxygen plant

A skid-mounted oxygen plant is, in WHO's technical specifications for oxygen generator plants (December 2024), a plant that comes pre-assembled on a skid, one of three delivery options alongside components shipped for on-site assembly and plants pre-housed in a container.

WHO's 2024 specification lists the three ways a plant can be delivered: disassembled for on-site assembly, pre-assembled and skid-mounted, or pre-assembled and pre-housed in a fit-for-purpose container (a containerized plant). For transport, it asks that a shipping crate encases the skid or that there is a barrier to access to components. WHO's Foundations of medical oxygen systems (17 February 2023) notes that containerized and skid-mounted solutions facilitate smoother installation but are not feasible for bigger sizes, typically above 30 Nm³/h production capacity.

UNDP's REQ-OXY-001 (effective 1 January 2025) says a PSA plant can be built on-site, skid-mounted or containerized, and, among the factors for adapting its illustrative implementation timeline, lists infrastructure requirements such as new housing for skid-mounted or built-on-site plants versus containerized plants. PATH and CHAI (July 2021) add that a PSA plant, if skid-mounted, should be in a well-ventilated housing, for security and protection from adverse weather conditions.

The ULTRACON datasheet states that container and skid-mounted solutions are available, and the datasheet of the industrial ULTRAOX VSA describes a skid or container system. See also containerised versus plant-room oxygen plants.
