Suction regulator
A suction regulator is a device connected to a medical vacuum pipeline outlet that controls the suction pressure delivered to clinical equipment; NHS England's HTM 02-01 (2026) asks for vacuum to be applied through a suction control device with a slam-shut mechanism and a hydrophobic filter to minimise the risk of carry-over into the pipeline.
In the ISO 10079 series on medical suction equipment, Part 3 (ISO 10079-3:2022) deals with suction equipment powered from a vacuum or positive pressure gas source, and Part 4 (ISO 10079-4:2021) sets the general requirements common to all parts of the series. Part 4 does not apply to dental suction equipment, anaesthetic gas scavenging systems or plume evacuation systems.
Ultra Controlo lists a medical vacuum regulator for controlling the suction pressure delivered to clinical equipment from hospital vacuum pipelines, with an adjustable negative pressure output and a gauge, for respiratory therapy and surgical suction, and a ward vacuum regulator unit for connection to vacuum pipeline outlets in wards, ICU and recovery rooms.
