Suction collection jar
A suction collection jar is the container in which fluid aspirated with medical suction is collected; NHS England's HTM 02-01 (2026) asks for the fluid to be collected in suction jars, with the vacuum applied through a suction control device.
ISO 10079-4:2021, the general requirements for medical suction equipment, does not apply to suction equipment in which the collection container is downstream of the vacuum pump.
HTM 02-01 also asks for a transparent collection jar, with a drainage valve, at the lowest point of the vacuum plant exhaust pipe (10.30), and for one at the base of each vacuum main riser, where it permits drainage while the system is under vacuum, with quarterly inspection (15.110). The ULTRAVAC datasheet lists a transparent liquid separator or drain flask that collects liquids and impurities and protects the bacterial filter element, and a translucent trap for condensate from the exhaust.
Ultra Controlo lists a medical suction collection jar for medical vacuum suction systems, designed for use with medical-grade vacuum pipelines in clinical settings, which captures condensate and liquid to protect downstream vacuum equipment.
